I just recently purchased a P89 and was wondering what peoples opinion of this gun is. I'm new to handguns this being my first one, I have owned. So let's hear it what's your thoughts on this tank one a machine.

I have the P95. It is the one with a hammer. I have had several Rugers. They are great guns in my opinion.

I've shot several Ruger autos and find the P Series to be relaible, reasonably accurate, and virtually indestructible. IMHO these are great truck/tackle box guns because of their reliability and ruggedness. They are not the most refined product out there and their way to bulky for me consider ever using one for CCW but for home/vehicle defense it's hard to beat this price point in an American made gun.

    Excellent "first" handgun choice.:)

    Enjoy and shoot safely;)

I've had one for almost 20 years. Has been an reliable shooter all along. A little too big for a concealed piece, but for open carry and range it is just fine. I like the decock for safety and it is easier to take down than about anything else I have. You should get along with it just fine.

Thanks for all the good feedback, I will be using it for home defense and open carry, so this very helpful.

I will have my first rounds through it tomorrow and will see how this old girl does.

Glood thing you only fired 14 rounds. 4 more and it would have looked like 2 loads of 00 buckshot.

Just playing with you. Keep practicing and your groups should tighten up nicely.:)

You made a good choice for one of your first handguns. I make sure anytime my wife goes to a barrel race that she has i her p89 in the truck with her. It is a very good gun for the money.

I have a P89DC (decocker only). I have had it for almost 18 years and carry it from time to time. Always goes bang when the trigger is pulled and built like bull dozer. It is heavy for a carry gun and bulky, but CCW is not supposed to be comfy now is it :)

IMO its perfect size as a carry gun. To bulky for CCW tho.

Carrying a gun should be "comforting" not "comfortable"
