    It's like a disease I tell you!

Just picked up a number of Colt parts again including this beauty.

Original finish, like new. Not sure what she's going to be yet but I can't wait. I'll keep you guys posted, thinking maybe an XM177e2, granddaddy of the M4, used from '67 on I believe, either way I'm excited.

The other parts are also like new, a type E stock, A1 grip, drain hole handguards, a slip ring and a three prong flash hider.

    Here's a Colt 629 (XM177e2), it looks a bit dark but like other retro M16s it's gray.

There is a deal on a retro in the deals deals deals thread. It is a complete minus lower. For the price you might want to jump on it and save the upper you have for yet another build lol.

Just couldn't help myself... Bought an original Colt 1/12 'MP' marked barrel. Looks like it's a '66-'69 I'll know more when I take possession of it. Guy threw in a barrel stub and Colt gas tube also. Both FSBs are smooth which means 1966-1969 and it has a Colt 3 prong on it also. These things are getting tough to find.

Anyway, judging from the parts I'm accumulating I'm building an XM16E1, predecessor to the M16A1, it also looks like retro build number three is on:eek:

I think I need an intervention, this stuff is like crack! :p

My original Colt barrel came in, unfortunately the seller either neglected to tell me or didn't realize that at some point someone had painted it black. They did a good job, but black is not correct and honestly looks pretty bad. I am set up for parkerizing but not on a scale of a 20" barrel so I guess I'm 'upgrading' my set up.

Parkerizing is cheap and easy... Unless you pay to have it done, then it's expensive. I can get set up to park barrels for about the same cost of having one done. At least I'll be able to do whatever I want at that point. Silver lining, now I'm rambling :p

Anyway here's a few pics of my two retro uppers now, suppose one is 1967 (top) the other 1974.

You should be able to tell the color difference between the barrels in the pic, both flash hiders are correctly parkerized.

    More parts inbound shortly.

Somebody else needs to pick up some of this retro weight, I can't do it all here!:D

Forgot about this thread, I'm bored so I figured I'd update.

The rifle was never completed as I found shortly after posting that the bore was rusted pretty badly, the seller refused to accept a return so I was stuck with it.

Ended up selling it for a loss to someone that planned to cut it down to build a 605.

Hopefully I can get back to building it soon.
