I love old ammo and have way too much. My only addition to this thread is to point out that old ammo tends to be more "Disappointing than Devastating". We've shot a lot of it up over the years, but stopped doing so after cases cracked, duds left bullets and wads in the barrels, and bases on shotshells blew hot gas in our faces.

My question for the group is to ask if anyone knows how to wrap old ammo boxes as I've seen at gunshows in the clear plastic that apparently shrinks around the box ?
The old ammo boxes do not travel well, nor do they like to be handled.

What I've seen, and it appears to work very well is what looks like some boxes have been wrapped in Saran Wrap "Cling". I just got two bricks of CCI 22-CLEAN in and both were wrapped with what looks like the very same "CLING" wrap the German has in her drawer where she keeps the aluminum foil, parchment paper and this CLING stuff.

All the old .22 rimfire full boxes I've collected over the years are sorta like that hunk of red rock candy Chief Lone Waddy had with Josie Wales, "It ain't for eatin', its's for lookin' through".
Sorta like my olde .22 ammunition, "It ain't for shootin', it's for lookin' at".

Not too much, maybe 5 or 6 boxes of these. I think I have a box or Sears .410 shells somewhere too. 20190613_201512.jpeg

CCW Round? The big one next to the clip of '06 blanks? Not sure - I assume 20mm?

I got some various stuff in an ammo can. Don't remember what all of it is. I know 1 box is a full box of Peters .410. One I bought as a kid back in about 1955. Plus other older stuff. Some full box and some partial. I need to look and see what is there.

Are you gonna start collecting some of this stuff?

I collect military rifles of World War One. So, I collect original ammunition of the era to display with the rifles. Which is interesting.

PPU makes loaded ammunition, brass and bullets for many of the WWI rifles (8mm Lebel, anyone?), but not all. No one makes ammunition or original ammunition for 6.5x53R Dutch, for instance. (But it can be formed from .303 British)

I also collect 7.65 Browning (.32 ACP) chambered pistols from the Art Deco period (1900 to WWII). And ammunition for that.

So I have a few odd bits. Now to photograph it and sort it out...

Here's a place to check out. You can get some semblance of 'worth' by condition and rarity from what Ray sells on his site:

    Caveman Jim, I hate you.

Your photo showing the box of 6.5mm Mannlicher. There are two cartridges known by that name to the British. One had a rim and the other did not. The photograph fills me with lust and covetousness.

I have both rifles and some original ammunition for them. I also have modern 'shooting' ammunition. (Don't shoot the old stuff, but it does make a dandy display.)

    I located some of my old ammo in a South African .303 ammo box. Inside is a box of S&W brand .38+p as well as an old W-W .38 Special LRN and an old +p Silvertip. A box of WW2 era 9x19 from Finland, loaded with cupro-nickel bullets. 1942 dated .30-06 black tip. A 99 cent box of Revelation .22 lr. Lastly a box of Remington Hi-Speed .22 Short hps. 20191030_221406.jpeg 20191030_221429.jpeg 20191030_221627.jpeg 20191030_221638.jpeg 20191030_221708.jpeg 20191030_221723.jpeg 20191030_221753.jpeg 20191030_222044.jpeg 20191030_222234.jpeg 20191030_222302.jpeg 20191030_222155.jpeg 20191030_222209.jpeg 20191030_222436.jpeg 20191030_222451.jpeg 20191030_222513.jpeg 20191030_222708.jpeg 20191030_222716.jpeg 20191030_222723.jpeg 20191030_222839.jpeg 20191030_222848.jpeg 20191030_222943.jpeg
