Just purchased a Remington R1, not enhanced for $725. Seemed like a decent deal. Any thoughts?

I am thinking about the stainless version of the R1 - please let us know how it shoots - range report!

Was the stock GI version. Was debating between the remington or the Taurus pt1911. Remington felt like it was put together better

I really like the tight tolerances of the Remington. I m looking to test-shoot one

That said, my understanding is that the old Colt 45s used by our servicemen in WW2 were loosey-goosey in terms of the slide, not like the stuff we buy today. You could drop them in a mud puddle, pick them up and fire. Kind of like the Remington 870 or AK47....

I think i'll be happy with it. Any suggestions on grips or possibly upgrading it?

Best source of reference would be to check Buds Gun Shop online.

With a polish job you should be more than happy with it. $725 isn't a bad price at all. The enhanced version is worth the extra hundred bucks if you don't want to do any work to the gun. The trigger is a bit better and if I remember correctly it has better sights. All in all the r1 is a fantastic gun for the money. I personally still prefer the rock island though and I would avoid the auto ordnance at all cost.

I was considering Rock Island but I figured Remington was good enough for my first 1911. Made in the USA
