Was the stock GI version. Was debating between the remington or the Taurus pt1911. Remington felt like it was put together better
I really like the tight tolerances of the Remington. I m looking to test-shoot one

That said, my understanding is that the old Colt 45s used by our servicemen in WW2 were loosey-goosey in terms of the slide, not like the stuff we buy today. You could drop them in a mud puddle, pick them up and fire. Kind of like the Remington 870 or AK47....

With a polish job you should be more than happy with it. $725 isn't a bad price at all. The enhanced version is worth the extra hundred bucks if you don't want to do any work to the gun. The trigger is a bit better and if I remember correctly it has better sights. All in all the r1 is a fantastic gun for the money. I personally still prefer the rock island though and I would avoid the auto ordnance at all cost.
