This is a tough decision. I've heard great things about both models. Both have their pros and, if you can call them, cons. Personally, there's nothing I don't like! Any suggestions or feedback?

In all of my hours of researching 1911's, weighing and wading through the online internet b.s. to pick out trends and the truth, I have come across but one gripe regarding a SR1911. Believe me I have looked hard for any complaints as I wanted one like real bad, but could not find one at a decent price and moved on.

As far as the Remington goes, they seem to have their fair share of problems and Remington's customer service seems to be a tad, lets say spotty in fixing any problems.

The Ruger 1911 is a pretty new gun (released to production not more than a year ago)....
Not sure that it has been around long enough to hear everything that there is to hear about (good or bad).
I do know that the demand for them is exceeding the supply right now & they are pretty scarce.

    Yeah me too....
The folks that do have them do seem to love them too. I have just seen one - about a week back at one of the LGS. They had one in. It was cool to look at just because it was the 1st one I'd seen.
I'd pick the Ruger between the two - too!

Both are nice guns for the money. The Ruger is hard to find and to many people want to much for them. Buy the Remington and shoot the snot out of it. Just take them apart and clean them well before shooting and remember if it slides grease it and oil all else.

I researched each of these when I decided to buy my first 1911. At the time I couldn't find any Rugers even though everyone loved them. I then turned to the Remington & quickly realized that I needed the enhanced version. Well at that price I could get a Springfield Range Officer... which I did. I do know that the Ruger is very highly regarded as you state.

I have the Remington, got one of the first when they came out. It had some "small" issues and they sent a ticket, paid the freight both ways and completely satisfied my concerns in one week! I do not find that "...to be a tad, lets say spotty in fixing any problems." in any way handled other than professionally.

I have run the gun as a range lizard for going on two years. It eats everything I feed it and keeps on going.

Also in the price range is the springfield milspec. I just picked one up about a month and a half ago. Only about 300 rounds through it so far, but no failure of any type. Federal, tulammo, and blazer aluminum cased. Next up, hopefully in just a few days, is some light target ammo a buddy has laying around. Due to personal reasons, I can't really go out and buy ammo at the moment, but this guy has this ammo sitting on a shelf, and no .45 to shoot it through. Going to get some very much needed range and cleaning therapy in the next couple days...

    I have a R1

It's been flawless no problems it eats whatever I feed it I use the Remington mags... well along with all my other mags with no trouble I'm very happy with it.
It is the "Enhanced" version. I shot with a fellow this past weekend who has the Ruger 1911 he said he's had it for 6 months with very few problems he said he's run about a 1,000 rounds of everything through it without a hiccup, although while we were shooting he had 2 failure to lock on a empty mag, he felt like it was a bad magazine.

The SA mil-spec is great if you get the NM version it USUALLY is fit together better. The range officer is a good gun to. Not a fan of the target sights though. I like the SAs better than the the Remington but not the Ruger.

Don't know about everyone else, but my non NM is more accurate than I am, and fits very nicely.

You should have finished my sentence as I said USUALLY. Not always I admit. The NM guns are assembled in the US with better quality control. From the dozens of SAs I have handled and shot the NM guns are better in most cases. Congrats on getting an N with good quality.

I meant no offense, I'm simply pointing out that the stock version is perfectly fine.

the biggest problem i see right now is the demand for the Rugers and them being able to produce and supply them. i have had the chance to handle and look over the R1 and it seems like a very nice and well made pistol. i would like to see a Ruger in person and handle it before i cast a vote on it. Ruger has a good reputation for quality firearms, lets see how they do in the long run with the 1911 style pistols. time and lots of ammo will tell the true story.

I own both of them and the range officer.I bought both the R! and the Ruger when they were first introduced, thus, cheap! The ruger has a little better finish,I like the sights better and both are very reliable. The R1 is not the enhansed version.just the basic, very clean, and aside for the sights, true to the original. The Range officer is completly different,it's a target gun and very good!

I picked up a para gu expert last summer aswell that ran like a champ put 1500 thru in in about a month and a half and not a prob on session she got 500 at once and not so much as a hiccup.

Finish is crap no dancing around it but for 500 bucks it's not a bad piece.

Those range officers look nice tho I have to day..

I've had my Ruger almost 2 weeks and I should have about 1000 rounds through it by the end of the weekend and so far not even a hint of an issue. I've been shooting a variety of ammo through it, reloads, steel case anything I can find, just to see what it can handle. Price was not an issue in selecting it, I read every review, article and range report I could find and there are lots of positives and very few negatives. I handled several other 1911's and the Ruger just felt better in my hand. Close second was the Remington and Springfield but when it came time to buy, looks and positive reviews won out. As good as it looks in photos, it looks even better in person.

I went with the Ruger SR1911. I called around to see what the prices were for the Remington's and asked if anyone had the Ruger. I couldn't believe it when one shop said that they just got one in and they were just about to put it on the shelf. So I told them to hold it and I'd be right over. Well, it was almost a 2 hour drive, but well worth it! And only $740 total, out the door. I've heard that they've been going for $750-850 (pre-tax) due to the availability and demand. Great gun, it cleaned up real nice. I can't wait to get it out to the range!

nice looking Ruger! let us know how it performs. glad you found one, as of so far i haven't even seen one in person yet. seems as demand is higher than the supply! seems like a decent price and glad the dealer didn't rape you over it considering that they are in such demand. enjoy it, i would!:D
