We bought Dad a Remington Model 7 for Christmas. It was advertised as a 7mm Ultra Mag, and that's what was stamped on the barrel. We took it out today and encountered a rather amusing problem once we hit the trail we use as a shooting lane.

    Pictures with 7mm ultra mag:

Any ideas what it's actually chambered in?

Once the bolt is removed the round fits in the chamber, but the bolt will not close behind it or a regular 7mm Mag and the barrel is apparently still a 7mm barrel.

Eye candy and stamps/markings to follow.

the Model 7 is the shorter version of the Model 700 action. so that round should never fit that action. sounds like maybe it was mismarked?

the only 7mm rounds shown for the Model 7 are the 7mm-08 and the 7mm SAUM.

    the 7mm-08 is 2.800" OAL.
    the 7mmSAUM is 2.825" OAL.

i think you have the wrong cartridges for the rifle. the 7mm RUM which is the 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum and it measures 3.600" OAL.

the one i think you need is the 7mm SAUM which is the 7mm Short Action Ultra Magnum.
