I was given one of these guns by my uncle and I've only shot it a few times and from what I see it's not that accurate, could be me though. What is everyone's thoughts on this gun?

All the ones I have seen are MOD (minute of deer). A lot of guys around here love them for dog hunting and jumping deer. One word of advice take it to a gunsmith and have him break it down and clean it---they are a bitch to put break down etc.

They are about the same thing,,,I think the 7400 is a later model.

    Fireguy,

I also have a Remington 740 in 30-06. I must agree it is not the "most" accurate rifle I have shot. And not what one would call a 1 MOA rifle. But it is designed to be a hunting rifle and due to it's age does not have all the improvements of some of the modern rifles. But 2 to 2 1/2 inch groups (Zero from the bench) at 100 yards is good enough for deer or other game hunting. Of course a lot of it has to do with selection of quality ammunition for the rifle. Also it is imparative you keep it clean! What caliber is your 740?

Obviously the gun was a hit for Remington just by looking at the great many years it has been in production. First as the 740 then 742 then 7400. No way it would last that long without a lot going for it. Carry the gun proudly and kill many deer with it.
