Hey guys I recently bought a remington 74 autoloading 30-06 rifle and today I noticed the magizine has stamped on it 270 WIN? Is this normal or did I get a used gun with the wrong magizine?
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the magazines for either cartridge are interchangeable, I've also heard that it's a common occurrence for them to get swapped during a rifles lifetime. I would try to load the mag and cycle it manually and if all seems well then I'd shoot it.
The 270 magazine should be fine. the 270 is just a 30/06 with a smaller bullet. The only problem would be if someone looked only at the mag and thought that was the caliber of the rifle.
The .270/.30-06 magazines are IDENTICAL except for the caliber stamped on them. You will not have any problems with it that you would not have with one stamped .30-06
my grandpa has one of those. when he bought an aftermarket mag for it, it was stamped for use with 4 different calibers which i believe were .30-06, .25-06, .270 & i think 7mm.
as long as you stick .30-06 in the mag you should be fine
thanks guys. One other thing would any of you have any web sites to get some information on it. Maybe a manual or somethhing I would like to be able to clean it better then just the barrel. I googled the sportsman 74 and I cant find much of anything on it almost like they were never made lol. Any help would be great.
Thanks but they dont have a remington 74. I looked for a sportsman 74 nothing the only thing that they have is a remington 740 so I dont know if thats a newer model or the same thing?
