If you were buying a new Remington 700 CDL for yourself, what 3-9 scope, rings and mounts would you put on it? I would like to stay $500 or less range on the scope. Will be a target rifle, but not match, 300 yards or less.

Will likely be a 30-06 as they don't make a 308 in the CDL, I may get the CDL SF instead, but not sure i really like SS that much.

With all these guns coming in i am tempted to get me one :D

    Thanks

Thanks, looks like a good choice

I can get it for a good bit less than that, though that is a fair price, i can sell it for $419.99 in my shop

it is one of my favorite setup's. that rifle was the first i put leupold bases and rings on and now they are all i use. Almost everyone of my rifles have them. they make for an incredibly strong set up. IMO

the one question i forgot to ask is if you were going to be wanting to adjust though turrets or just raise? the leupold 4-12x40 you can get with the LR Duplex Reticle and that will set you up for your raise.

very good choice and a nice scope but i dont like the circles that come along with the Nikon BDC reticle. makes it a little more difficult to hold dead on side to side and up and down at longer distances with a circle. IMO

If you're set on a 3x-9x scope I'd recommend you check out the Zeiss Conquest. You can find them within your budget.

If this is TRULY only going to be a 300 yards or less target shooting rifle (I'm saying that because a CDL is not the normal choice for that endeavor) you really do not need more than 10X on the top end but going to 14 will not hurt you. Bigger than that and heat mirage starts becoming an issue.

I would look for the finest reticle I can find since it is hard to shoot precision targets at distances with a regular duplex, again making an assuption we are talking trying to shoot small groups at paper targets. Mil Dots are not nessesary but they can come in handy if you decide to try longer distances and some steel plate games in the future.

You want exposed, target style, well calibrated turrets and REPEATABILITY of adjustments (something you won't find on the lower end scopes). A focus adjustment knob is a must to avoid paralax issues and real precision shooting.

    Here is one good choice:

Nikon Monarch Rifle Scope 4-16x 42mm Side Focus Mil-Dot Reticle Matte for about $450
Nikon Monarch Rifle Scope 4-16x 42mm Side Focus Mil-Dot Reticle Matte - MidwayUSA
