Just picked one up a few days ago for 170$,camo stock. Got a tasco 3-9X40 scope and a 30rd mag for it too. I got it for some rabbit, squirrel, and varmint hunting as well as plinking.

First day at the range went well. Shot 1inch groups at 50-70 yrds. Very pleased with this! Great gun at a great price.

Nice what did it come with? Just a clip?
they come with one clip and a scope. i grabbed a scoped model in march of last year from dicks for 170 aswell. one thing you might want to do is loosen up your guide rod screws so it will cycle smoother, thats if it needs it. some people complain about fte's (failure to eject).

Hmmmmm...mine didn't come with a scope..? Had to buy it seperate. Hadn't had a feeding problem and I shot some cb's too. If it ain't broke......

AAAHH! What was that word??? Clip?......... magazine
i have both editions lr and mag. you must get the volquartsen 597 hammers.
they will improve the trigger so much better and smooth as a baby's butt.
you can get them at hawktech on the rimfire central forum, and they don't charge freight.. i got two for just over $63. took me about 40 minutes to change my two and what a CHANGE. JUST MY O2 CENTS. but this item for the 597 id a must have, gets rid of that 5-8 lb trigger.:)

im gunna wait on buying vq's hammer till i see what i can do with my stock hammer first. im gunna take mine apart and polish as much as i can today before my battery poops on me:D
I bought one at WallyWorld a couple of years ago, camo stock. No scope and only 1 ten shot mag. The seam on the stock had a ridge on it, but I took a penny and used the edge to smooth it. I bought a scope for it and recently the factory 30 shot mag. It is wifey's favorite. I've never had any ejection problems. I bought box of 550 Remington bullets, and I was very disappointed with them. Easily 1 of every 5 of them failed to fire. I bought some CCI's, and bang every time. :D
i stopped buying bulk bullets when i had my marlin mod 60, i think they all suck a big one:D
My 597 HATES the remington 550 box..... a shame, since it's only like 20 bucks.

i have aout 300 more i need to try and burn through... what do these guns like? CCI- what model you use?
mine loves the cci mini mags. ive got the plastic green stock model. the best groups ive shot have been all rounds touching at 30 yrds. havent had the wind on my side to see what it can really do but hopefully since the weather is gettin nicer ill have more oppourtunity to see what she can really do
I have had no problem with CCI. Mini-Mag high velocity 40 gr.

I think the ammo manufacturers keep the ammo that falls out of spec and just boxes them up together to sell. That's why they suck.

I can get 100 cci mini mags for $6.50 here, so it's not too much cheaper to have misfeeds,jams,etc...

I finally got around to polishing the guide rods. I want to get the vq hammer and extractor soon.
30 round magazines?

Where might one find these little gems?
30 mage

Where might one find these little gems?
Cabella's has them on back order but will get them soon.

Wal-mart keeps them in stock here. Every gun shop I go to has various ones to choose from.

I bought a 597 for my son a while back a Bass Pro. Came with a scope and a 30 rd mag. The mag sucks, fails to feed. Ordered 2 10 round factory mags and have not had a fail to feed since. He shoots in our local 4-H shooting sports with it and it has been very reliable without the 30 rd mag
mine is very reliable. i love it, especially with a 21/2 lb trigger :D. ive got a nice mil dot on mine, still trying to get used to the mathmatics for it:cool:
I seen one in the Gander mnt the other day for $197. Boy I am itching for a semi auto. For $197 I can do all sorts of stuff to it and not have to worry about screwin it up.
it sucks that they dont have a lot of after market parts for though:( but a lot of mods you can do yourself anyways. plus there pretty accurate with the right glass on'em
