I believe this is on the cover of one of the new issues of one of the gun rags. If not the cover, at least a story, or maybe just an ad. Cant remember.

Looks like a direct competitor with the Springer Mil-Spec. Same 3 dot sights and flared & lowered ejection port, price is about the same as well. I do find it odd that they chose a flat MSH though. In one of the pix, the front sight looks dovetailed, a big plus if it is. It will be interesting to see how these stack up quality wise...

That's just where they are distributed. Doesn't mean they are made there. ;)

Funny this topic got posted...I was at Wal*Mart this morning to get shotgun shells for this weekend shoot...while walking past the magazine rack I noticed the new "Shooting Times" jumping out at me. I thumbed through the rag then bought it with my 12ga. shells. I'm a BIG Remington fan as most know. A little info from the article to share with ya'..."The grip safety is the standard short government model variety-no beavertails here. The 1911R1 components are made in-house by Remington. Carlos Martinez, Remington's production manager, advises that the grip safety currently on the pistol is thumbed, but the production guns will feature a beveled safety." Just skimming through the article it seems that the 1911R1 is still in prototype stage with no production release date. When these come out I'm buying one!!!

Looks like a 1911-A1, but it has a series 80 firing pin block. I've
never had a lot of use for that "feature".

Just read about that on The Shooting Wire. (By the way, go to Tactical Wire.com and sign up.) I too do not care for the series 80 firing pin block, but well might buy one of these. Don't know tho, just heard about S&W making a compact scandium version, officers frame, commander slide. Sounds like a Mothers Day gift to me...

    Firing Pin Block!

I work my own trigger jobs on my 1911's I use in competition, series 80's 1911 45's with the firing pin block are near impossible to acheive a light, crisp, trigger.........But they are very safe to carry. This new Remington should be a very reliable and accurate weapong.......sure would like to shoot one soon......Thanks, W.T.

Was at my local dealer last weekend and he says that the Remmy 1911R1 will become available in June. He placed his order, but he's not sure how many he'll get. Sounds like a pretty cool Father's Day gift, if you ask me.

Remington]Remington Acquires Dakota Arms (and Nesika Bay)

This is the site I found showing production in "SHOOTING". The quoted statement below came from the article:

"Remington’s 1911 R1 will be officially launched at the NRA Annual Meeting in NC in May. The gun, which is made in Remington’s Ilion, NY facility, should be available in June, 2010, and dealers are already taking advance orders. The Remington 1911 R1 will be shipped in a custom carry case with two 7-round magazines and a barrel bushing wrench (see photo below). Suggested retail price is $699.00."

    cane,

Thanks for the link...the price is begginning to soar.
It's got me all jittery.
My local dealer told me he ordered quite a few because everyone in our neck of the woods is going to want one. He gave me a price of $599, but I'm sure it'll change by the time the R1's hit his store's shelf. :(
I don't know if I should order on-line and have it sent to him or should I wait until he gets his order.

If only I was 21, I'd buy one of these for sure. I love Remington, always have. I'm still looking forward to the release of the 1911R1 though.
