I have been looking for a barrell for a 1187 SF but have been unable to find one. I am wanting one that is rated for steel shot. Can a regular 1187 barrell be altered to fit a SP? If not, are there other possible options? Thanks.

I believe all 11-87 barrels can handle steel shot, but you may want to give Remington a call to confirm that...

All 11/87 barrels are rated for steel shot. The 11/87 came out after the steel shot requirement so all shotgun barrels since then are rated for steel shot unless I'm wrong. Special Field barrels are slightly thinner than "regular" 11/87s.

Thanks Missleman and Stalkingbear. I made a mistake in my posting, it is actually a 1100 special field. It was purchased in 1993. I will check with Remington. I have some shotguns that have "lead shot only" stamped on the screw in choke tubes. The tubes that came with the special field does not have that so you are probably right. Thanks again. You guys have a great forum here.
