Lately I've had the bolt riding over the top of the cartridge with more than two rounds in the mag. Seems to chamber fine with two...but when I load a third, the bolt won't catch the cartridge rim, it'll go right over it. This is a 700 short action with no floor plate.

I'm thinking the spring must have gotten bent at a wrong angle or lost some of it's tension so it's not pressing that follower up hard enough. I'll just buy a new mag spring, no big deal. Is this a common problem?

Have you had it apart? Sometimes it is easy to get the spring in upside down. If not you can get a new one from Midway USA has them for $8.59.

yeah, thanks 03, I'll just replace it. I never cared much for the spring design on this thing.
