Does anyone know how to increase firing pin protrusion on a Rem model 700? I'm a little under specs now(.040").

    Thanks

To do it right just replace the pin. But if your in an emergency situation than once you remove the pin you will see the sear contact area you must relieve, do not remove to much because this will put you in a primer bursting situation.

Remove the pin and spring, chuck in lathe. The stop behind the pin taper is solid. Turn the amount you need off.

    Good luck

The 1st thing to check is to make SURE the firing pin you have now is within specs. Is it striking the primers with enough force to ignite them reliably? The firing pin has a "shoulder" that you can slightly turn down for a VERY small amount if you need to.
