rem 121 feeding problems

I am having trouble with a Rem 121 feeding the first couple rounds when a full mag is loaded.

Mag holds 14 LR rounds to the top of the mag tube @ the loading hole. If I load 11 or fewer rounds, there is not an issue. As I go up to 12, and 13, I start to feel a hesitation in the feeding action. Loading 14 cartridges will hang up the first round every time. The base of # 2 round up the tube is putting too much pressure on the nose of the first round, and the action will not lift the nose of #1 round. The rear of the shell tries to come up, but the nose is hung up on the back of round #2. Once I clear #1, and sometimes #2, the rest of the rounds will feed right thru. I am not firing these rounds, just running live rounds thru the action. The nose of the rounds which have made many many trips thru are flattening out, and the only thing they touch on the trip thru the action is the base of the shell ahead of it. I have gone to new shells, and still 14 won't work.

Question: is the recommended 22LR max loading for the 121 less than 14 rounds? If 14 is the recommended #, is there something that could be causing the hang up other than too much pressure from the mag tube spring?

I got no problem loading 11 every time, but if it is suppose to handle 14, then I would like to get it right. BTW, this is a 1941 vintage and shows almost no mechanical wear.

I would appreciate ANY comments or suggestions.

That's a unique problem and 1 that I can't diagnose without looking at it in person. The 121 is supposed to hold 14 LR cartridges. Perhaps the cartridge lifter needs to be looked at.

First, try cleaning everything. Spray gunscrubber works pretty well (hint- safety glasses keep the schpritz outa your eyes) and clean the INSIDE of the mag tube- 22 RF ammo is really dirty- wax lube and crud can fill spaces, make spring bind.
