I recently purchased a Japanese Type 44 cavalry carbine that was sportized probably back in the 1950's. It is in great condition and the work was professionly done. I can buy dies to resize the 257 brass from Midway. What I need is reloading recipes for this caliber. Any info will be appreciated.

This should be a great caliber. I would have a good 'smith check it out as the strength of the 6.5 Japanese might be suspect. It seems that some die, and/or bullet companies could provide data. Ballistics, but not necessarily reloading data, shoud be very similar to the .260 Remington.

Found the needed load data in an old Lyman manual. Back in the day this was a popular conversion for the Arisaka rifles. They could be bought for around $10 and there were also a lot of WW II bring backs. The load data matches closely with that in current manuals for the 6.5 x 55 Swedish mauser. Since the rifle is old but in good condition I'll be conservative in my loads.
