I found my grandfathers Winchester model 61 .22 and it is in pretty rough shape. It went through a house fire and has been sitting in a barn for the past 2 years. It did not receive any direct heat damage from the fire just smoke, the outside of the barrel has rusted pretty good. I did some research on the serial number and it looks like it was made in 1949. It was function properly prior to the house fire and if possible I would like to refurb it and get it back to original appearance and shooting and give it to my son. I am looking for any advice on how to go about getting it back in shape.
