I have inherited a .22 LR bolt action rifle, it currently has a Sears scope on it. I would like to replace the existing one with a new one. Can someone recommend a decent scope for under $100? Thanks!

i hear simmons are decent for that price. look into BSA as well. barska puts out super cheap scopes but then i doubt they are very good quality. also try looking for a used scope. i bought a really nice tasco used for 30 bucks. its a great 3x9 scope. with 100 as a limit you are really stuck using slightly cheaper optics. if you can save and make it 200. you can get some good choices in burris, nikon. theses are really good scopes.

Scopes designed for the 22lr are usually parallax set to 50 yards. Center fire scopes are set to 100 yards. A good inexpensive scope for your bolt action would be the BSA Sweet 22 3-9X40. The older models with the front adjustable objective are on sale right now in the $40 range.

Put a barska 4x32 on my 10/22, works great. Dont know what distance you plan on shooting from, but from 50 and even 100 yds it's clear and easy to zero, really accurate too. I'm super impressed for a $35 scope, and it even came with decent rings.

I find it odd that we rate level of importance of the firearms based on caliber. You would never put a cheap cope on an 308 or 338 lapua. But those weapons get used not very often, yet 22's get **** scopes. I say put the best scopes on the ones we fire the most. I'm putting a delta point leupold dot on my ruger 22/45 to get use to it so I can decide if I want to put on on my glock 30 or 19. I have a sig 522 and that I'm going to get a something cool as well. Can't afford to shoot the ar's as much as the 22's, so cool sh@t goes on thoughs guns.

I agree that if I was planning on shooting this gun a lot, I would put a Leupold scope on it. However, since I have had this gun for 15yrs and just shot it for the first time, I don't see the point in putting an expensive scope on it. I typically shoot my other guns more.

I should've been more clear earlier. The braska 4x32 is good for target shooting at about 50 yards away. I also have a BSA .22 sweet 3/9x 40mm which is an amazing scope for any shooting.

How about peep sights ? As you already know, there are no good scopes for $100.

I think cheap scopes on a .22lr or any rimfire for that matter last because the recoil isnt beating them up. A tasco on a .22 might last for years whereas the same scope on a 30-06 may not last thru a box of bullets.

Speaking of tasco my BIL has a 2x7 on his marlin and its dead nutts accurate. I have a BSA I use on my Henry sometimes and its the same way, very accurate. Im sure it wouldnt last long on one of my Mosin Nagants.

check out the BSA and Centerpoint scopes. Bamashooter is correct, that the recoil of most rimfires just don't beat the scope up like a centerfire scope will. unless using the rifle for competition match shooting, the less expensives scope if you can see through them clearly will usuall work fine. i had a Simmons 3-9x40 on my 22 rifle that worked great. original cost was about $40 NIB. about nine years ago.

believe it or not, WalMart is a good source for a rimfire scope. MidwayUSA and MidSouth Shooters Supply both are good sources for decent pricing on scopes. MidwayUSA also has free shipping on most of their scopes which could save you some money.

What's the make, condition and age of the rifle? How about a photo? If it's an old collectable then perhaps a nice used Weaver would be best in keeping with it's originality. Check on ebay.
