rechambering?

A longer barrel will help the 25-284 acchive higher velocity with same pressures. A 26" barrel would be tops from velocity standpoint alone. You didn't state what yer going to do with it.

IMHO there is nothing really wrong with the Roberts. With the new +p ammo they are very respectable. You might pick up a couple of hundred FPS with a rechamber but I doubt an animal hit by both would be able to tell the difference. Bullet choice is the key. Find a bullet that will do what you want. From 90 grainers to 120's. Soft point, hollow point, partition, bonded core etc. You can find a load/bullet combination that will get the job done with out resorting to an expensive wild cat. The quarter bore is an excellent realm for coyotes to whitetail to pronghorn. It will never be an Elk size cartridge, no matter how fast you push it.
