It was off to the range with a pocket full of bullets to conduct a multiple chronograph program. The test gun was a Mossberg 702 .22lr, the chronograph was a F1, and the cartridges were as follow:

    Blazer: 22lr, 40 grain, Lead Round Nose, 1235/108 Lot# 00021 (CCI)
    1. 1230......2. 1246
    3. 1217......4. 1224
    5. 1230......6. 1229
    7. 1249......8. 1220
    9. 1231......10. 1230

    Federal: 22lr, 36 grain, copper plated HP, 1260/125 #1GT749
    1. 1282......2. 1289
    3. 1278......4. 1296
    5. 1282......6. 1298
    7. 1264......8. 1267
    9. 1280......10. 1284

    Remington: 22lr, 36 grain, Brass-Plated Hollow Points 1280/131 #1622C
    1. 1252......2. 1213
    3. 1233......4. 1184
    5. 1228......6. 1202
    7. 1236......8. 1190
    9. 1241......10. 1206

The chronograph was positioned 20 feet from the gun support. The time was 0930 AM, sunshine, clear sky, wind at 0-5 mph, temperature at 76 degrees.

This sample indicates Remington and Blazer under-produced to their rated velocities with the test gun. Federal over-produced to its rated velocity using the same test gun.

The shot group for the above program is as noted:

im impressed by the higher rating the federals produced. but i like the consistancy of the cci. nice job... you should try a few more brands, winchester, fiocci etc, etc

i have a .22lr 1911 handgun and so far my favorite ammo is cci stingers and remington thunderbolts. i'm going to try maybe 7 or 8 different brands. thank god .22lr is inexpensive.
