I just got my Nikon 1-4x M-223 scope that I've been waiting for it seems forever. When I opened it...WOW, loved it.

    Except

As I look through it in 1x mode, everything seems exactly as the naked eye can see. When I turn the knob toward 4x, everything gets FARTHER AWAY!!

    That's wrong, correct?

Optics Planet.com already sent me a return slip so I can ship it back. Anything I can do to fix this myself? I'm afraid I won't get another for, like, 2 more months.

I bet Optics Planet will exchange much quicker than what it originally took for you to get it.

Yep, request a replacement and it should get to you overnight!

OP is good about customer service.

I realize it's a stupid question but are you SURE you're looking through the right end? What does it do if you look through the other end?

There are no stupid questions Bear. Sounds like a logical question.

    Hmmm...

Below is a photo of the scope. I just packed it all back up in the box so I'll start with the question. Which end should I be looking into? I won't tell you which end I was looking through yet.

Oooooh I HOPE that is it. That would would be a really cool newbie-stinkin' mistake to put in my scrapbook of newb-crap I have done in my few years of firearms experience.

    That is EPIC stupidity!!

stalkingbear, I am forever indebted to you being willing to ask the obvious question.

I turned it around and the scope has been repaired.

Okay, we're all done here...nothing to see...go on back to your business.

Seriously, thanks for your help. This is what makes this forum so cool. I wasn't afraid to ask and I didn't get made fun of. Though if you want to make a joke at my expense, I think I deserve it!

I'm much better at electronics than I am with firearms and I always check to see if the thingie is plugged in before I start trying to fix stuff. stalkingbear's suggestion was the same thing. Plug it first, you dufus.

OUTSTANDING! Kudos to Bear for the correct question and to Chris for fessing up!

Just glad it was a scope you were looking in and not a new gun! ;)

Yeah, "Which hole does the bullet come out of?" is not a question that you want to ask AFTER handling the new, loaded gun.

What do you mean by troll thread? Did he do this on purpose to see if anyone would catch it?

That's what I was thinking, kind of a joke thread to see who was paying attention. I thought the same thing you did when I read the description, but then saw the picture of the scope and went "Okay, you got me". :D

Hey, we ALL make mistakes. It is our ability to learn from them that separates us from the apes.....or from other humans.

That makes it even funnier! I am touched that you can barely believe that I would look in the wrong end...touched.

I was dead serious, but my smile is ear to ear now.:D

Chris, you opened up a new world here for which end is up. I had the same thought as stalkingbear when I started reading through it. That is some funny sh!t right there. They sell a left or right hand extended charging handle/rod. Look into it, please.

I decided to send the cantilever forward instead of back. I just had to move the stock in a few clicks to keep the eye relief cool.

I should get out of the habit of using my strong hand to charge the round, anyway.

Some of you will just have to wonder what that photo looked like that got deleted and replaced.

I can't wait to go shoot some things out at the rock quarry in Estacada, OR! There is decades worth of junk all shot full of holes. With the scope I'll finally be able to see the stuff I am shooting!!!
