I went to my lgs and they have a mauser matching numbers with some custom work to it. It has a lyman rear peep sight the throat was cut out so the guy before could load 220 gr bullets in it. He replaced the original rear sight with a Remington rear sight (I don't know why he needed two rear sights but whatever) and they are wanting 189.99 for it. What do y'all think

Matching numbers don't seem to matter any more based on the rest of the work.

Alright I just got done talking to them some more about it he had the throat extended so he could seat the 220gr bullets further out so it didn't take up powder room. And its a m48

Don't. No, really. Just don't. At this point you really have no real way of knowing just what has been done to that rifle, or if the person doing it could find their butt with both hands and a guidebook.

Well what I was told was he had a Smith extend the throat and rock bedd the action. but the gun was a project gun he made it in to a light weight military hunting rifle. The guy I was talking to is a smith and he was saying all the work was done right.

    573,

As far as the matching numbers unfortunately they ruined a good rifle. However I am not saying it is not a good rifle in it's present state. It just would have been worth a bunch more if it would have been left in it's original state. As stated we would like to see the pictures.

Lol for me to get pictures I got to buy it first. I put it on layaway figured if anything I could use the action to build off. im not much of a surplus collector so matching number don't mean alot to me.
