Question about synthetic vs. wood stocks

Is it true that the reason one would float the barrel on a rifle is because the wood stocks can warp or compress/decompress as the weather changes?

If so, do synthetic stocks elimate the warping problem....making the floating of the barrel overkill?

    Thanks for your opinions.

Floating just takes the contact away. The contact "can" upset the barrel harmonics and adversely effect accuracy. Glass bedding eliminates the movement inherent with wood. Inconsistant contact really screws things up.

Synthetics do not move with changing moisture, but can move with temp changes.

Wood has grain and character that synthetics cannot equal. Many people prefer the look and feel of real wood.

Thanks, I'm sure I'll be changing out the stock anyway:)
