I have purchased a Remington 700 CDL 7MM Rem Mag and a Leupold VX-L 3.5X10X50 scope and would like some guidance on what I should use for scope rings and a base.
Seems to me that it would make more sense to set the rings where you have optimal cheek weld and are most comfortable. Having the center line of the scope's center 18mm above the barrel isn't conducive to a good cheek weld and doesn't sound very comfortable at all. With a rifle set up like that, many would have to crane their necks to lay their temple against the stock of the rifle.Sittin' around my local gun shop, I've heard this alot. My Smith tells them
"it's preferance"....With your scope you can go as low as 36mm before touching the barrel. That's good..My opinion is "Go as low as you can go".
This regards to your rings....For the base, I've found 1 piece base's are
stronger, but you may have more options on a 2 piece style. I use several
manf. ie: Leopold, Burris, Larue Tactical, it all depends on....what else.....
Preferance...![]()
The rings for your model are 1", so you have many options....
Your gun smith would help you with these options....If you want to really smoke the O'l brain cells, ask to look thru his Brownell's catolog.......you'll be
awed at the list.
I hope this sheds a little more light....
