How many have tried the pulled down surplus powders like WC844? I see it at a great price and anyone that shoots a lot can save at Wideners and other retailers online. Just wanting others experience, good stuff or not?

I've used a ton of it. Never had a problem.

But be forewarned, different lots have slightly different burning speeds.

So buy as much from one lot as you can afford, because you really should re-work your powder charge every time you buy a new lot.

BTW, that's true of expensive commercial canister powders, although to a slightly lesser extent, and the manufacturers are quite naturally reluctant to admit it.:D

I have noticed some powders vary from lot to lot and work better in some calibers than others. I try to buy a 5 or 8 lb keg if I can to work with it for both semi auto and bolt. My Varget does not shoot well in my mini 14 target model but will shoot well in my Savage bolt.
