I was surprised to find that there's no thread or forum sticky that posts the proper pronunciation of gun terms and company names. Am I just missing something somewhere? I looked thru everything briefly and saw nil.

I've always wonderd if I've been saying Sig Sauer correct. As well as a few others.

I've always said the sig like smoke a "cig", and then Sauer like the Sawyer in Tom Sawyer.

I say "cig saur" as in dinosaur.

Mosin Nagant is a strange one.
    I say "mo-ZIN nah-GAHNT"
Its really something like, or similar to, "moy-ZHEEN nah-GAWN", like with a French pronunciation, or similar.

I've always sauer-sour. Never been looked at crazy and it's a German company so im guessing it's like sauerkraut and that's not pronounced Sawyer-kraut lol

That was my theory as well, but I never assume anything. When it comes to proper nouns there really aren't any rules, or rather they can break them.

Hahahaha I don't even bother attempting that one. Lol

I figured it one of those few that would be as it looks. Moe-Sin Nag-Ant.

I'm German, and for 32 years I was saying my last name until some Germans told me the proper pronunciation. In not even going to start with firearms.

How about Heckler and Koch? That's the only one I'm not sure about.

Being as it is a German name you have to say it with a bit of anger in your voice, just short of spitting when you bark it out in two gutteral syllables but the syllables must be nearly indistinguishable- it helps if you have a smoker's voice. (note here, there are very few words in the German language that do not have multiple syllables, and they have some multi-multi syllable words to make up for those.) So it is a combination of "sour" and "sawyer". ;)

    Same thing. Lol

I knew that, but I just love his goofy speech impediment and accent combo. Beats anything Germ.

One of my best buds is Austrian and screams at me anytime I compare the two, so I get my jollies anytime I get the chance, even if he doesn't get the benefit of hearing it. I'll be sure to tell him.
