So I've been looking at my Mossberg ATR alot lately, trying to think of a project idea for it. I know that some Rem 700s have a hinged floorplate and you can get conversions to let them accept detachable magazines. This led a bit of surfing the web and I know Mossberg made a centerfire much like the ATR called the 4x4. The 4x4 comes standard with a DM. This makes me really want to try to modify the ATR (I'm not worried about screwing up the cheap stock on it) Has anyone done something like this before? Is it something that would be easy to do? I love projects and this is really just about seeing if I can do it

    Comments, questions, concerns?

Nothing??? I've been looking at the ruger gunsite to try to see how that works but I can't really find anything in the ways of close ups and really show how it works. Research continues....

Mossberg as you probably know makes the MVP which works with AR mags. That required a bolt modification with the proprietary steel lip.

I was looking at that last night I also looked at the rugers bolt face and they looked the same as does a remington 700. I think the reason it has that lip is because there is a gap in the AR magazine that the rounds will feed from.

The lower lip looks somewhat like a Mauser claw extractor, but indeed it's function is to pick up the round recessed in the AR style mag. This is for people who want for one reason nor another a high cap mag in a bolt action rifle. The downside is bumpy cycling. I would also like to see how many rounds the hinged lip is going to last. The track record hasn't been long enough to tell.

Boyd's Gun Stocks offers a walnut and laminated stocks to fit the ATR100 rifles. it might be easier to modify one of those, vs. the factory plastic one. just an idea for you to consider.

No sense in dropping a bill on a project that I might screw up. Any other suggestions on other kinds of magazines to use? I'm mot sure if the internal magazine on the ATR is double stacked or single stacked but should that matter?

IIRC, the box magazine on the ATR is staggered.
