I was at a pawn shop yesterday and saw a couple of rifles for sale: a Yugo SKS 7.62x39 for $299 (w/ bayonet and good looking furniture), and a Remington 03-A3 in .30-06 for $399. I noticed the Yogo as I was about to leave, and didn't handle it, but I did handle the Remington. The 03-A3 has been sporterized with a nice walnut stock, but is missing the bead from the front sight. I didn't buy either because I just don't know whether those are good prices, and I've burned myself like that before. So, should I run back out there next weekend and snap them up if they're still there, or take a pass? And what are some red flags in condition to look for with those? I didn't see any visible rust, at least.

If there is a gun show around your location go there for a cheap SKS. My dad got on for 200$. After some haggling.

Go to Gunbroker and check prices for what they are bringing at auction.

I have a Yugo SKS and a Norinco Chinese SKS and they are good "fun guns" but not if your serious about accuracy.

I also had a Remington made 03-A3 with a cut down stock which I paid $60.00 for in 1976. The problem with with the 03 will be the military chamber and reloading for it, it was very hard on commercial brass even when loaded to standard pressures. I loved the design of the 03 and it was a favorite but it was sold for a newer Remington 700.

Just click on the link below and do a search for each gun and their prices.

    I'll probably pass on them.

Just my .02$, but I'd go for the nice-looking SKS, if it still has a bayonet and

    decent sling.

Ammo's herds cheaper than a 30.06, and while I think the '03 has a certain

milsurp appeal, the sporterized version is a real turn-off, IMO.
