Preserving pelts

    How do you preserve the pelt of an animal?

    Stretch it, flense it, then rub it in salt. After stretchin it and flensen it good i rub the skin side down w salt the roll it up and put it in a bread sack in the freezer. I usually stretch em just as long as it takes to flense em and rub a little salt on the skin side.

    Scrape all the fat and silver skin off the skin side of the hide.

    Your welcome. I use a dull knife or a jagged piece of metal that doesnt have any SHARP edges/points on it.

    How long do you usually freeze them for? A day, week, month?

    Usually bout 3 days to 3 months. Dependin when i can get to my furrier
