Going on a hog hunt next week and finally got my red dot in. At 50 yards sig v crown performs ok, federal bear claw does ok with 4" groups...but the PPU defense 180 grain jhp shoots under 2" at 50 yards. 1100 fps, 180 grain. Think it's enough for hogs or keep searching for a different load.

PPU had some issues not too long ago with their 10mm cases; there was even a recall if I remember correctly. Didn't follow further but I know I didn't reload any of mine; think I even dumped a box or two.

Hot 10mm should be plenty for hogs but I don't remember the PPU being all that hot. I might look at Double Tap of Buffalo Bore if it was me.

Yeah. 1100 fps for 10mm isn't hot at all.

1100 FPS is more like 40 sw load.

SD loads are loaded so they won't over penetrate. Or less chance. For a woods load i load 10mm 180 grain Hondaldy xtp with bluedot at 11 grains. According to data it's close to 1300 FPS. I did find Blue dot needs magnum primers to burn completely for these loads.

If I was going hog hunting I would buy some Underwood 200/220 gr. hard cast flat nose @ 1250/1200 fps

That's what I had planned on doing but I didn't think my sight would be in in time. Now it's in and I'm scrambling.
