SRK You are right on the Starlings. A few weeks ago I opened up the Blue Bird House that had 5 of their Blue eggs in it only to find a Starling setting on the Eggs. I scared it out of the nest and it never came back. And then I lost the chicks about a week later to a snake during one night. I had chased a Rat Snake off the Porch a couple of days prior. But they say they will remember where the nest is and obviously did! Totally PMO! From now on good snake or bad around the Blue Bird House = DRT! I have modified the Bird house shown and fixed it as in the second picture. I went to the Internet on Blue Bird Protection and assembled one like they advised. The Blue Birds have made another new nest inside. Since I cleaned out the last one, thinking it might have some sent from the snake in it. The new one will be almost impossible for a snake to climb according to the Blue Bird People, since the Stove Pipe is slick and also swings on the main pole. If they are able to climb the Center Pole they can not get out at the top to gain access to the House! The top of the Stove Pipe has a 6" plug (Clean out Cap in it with an 1" Hole for the 1/2" Pole to go through. As stated that allows the Stove Pipe to swing back and forth.
