My girlfriend was shooting and I heard a really weak report from the Bersa she was shooting. She chambered another round and was getting ready to fire and I stopped her.

Ammo was from Freedom Munitions I think. What do you guys think?

Squib? Is it lodged in the barrel?

Damn good thing you didn't let her fire another round.

Can you push it out with a cleaning rod? If I were you I would call F. M. on Monday. I've never dealt with them but I've heard they have very good customer service.

It's unfortunate too because I've seen one of these a whole once the entire time I've been shooting. She's brand new to shooting and now she's scared of a firearm blowing up in her face.

Took a cleaning rod and a hammer to it. Came out with a little work.

I would say it's the ammo.
I havent heard of any similar problems with Bersa, but what do i hear? My music is always loud.
Im glad no one was hurt, did the rifling get scratched up?
    Keep us updated.

I couldn't help but notice the background.

Of course that didn't get opened until afterwards, right?

Check the ammo. If reloads, that is one small problem of not enough powder (or no powder). If factory, inform the manufacturer of the lot number of the ammo.

Was that the first magazine fired? Do you use WD40 or any other penetrating lube on the firearm?

In all probability it was a light load from the ammo manufacturer, but I have seen many squibs caused by penetrating lube getting into the primer pocket and making the primer spark light. If you had saved the brass you might be able to tell. Was there a lot of unburned powder in the barrel?

Concedering who made the ammo I would say your lady is lucky you were near buy. Way to much junk ammo out there today. There are some brands I will not buy. Tye bersa is a great little pistol. My wife and one daughter CC a bersa 380CC model as one of there pistols.

Dont use a cleaning rod. Use a wooden dowel about .3inch diameter. Cleaning rod is too small for anything but a .22 for pushing a stuck bullet. It can bend and jam in the bore.

Try gently tapping from the muzzle as it may just barely be in the grooves. If gentle taps dont cut it gotta beat it out from the rear. Since the bersa barrel is attached to the frame with pins you want to do this without putting pressure on the frame.

I would rest the muzzle down on a wood surface and pound till the bullet is at the crown then turn it upside down and smack the dowel on the table top using the barrel as your grip. If you hold the frame to do this you can shear the pins holding the barrel in from the odd torque you would enforce on it.

I had a Sgt who was just getting into reloading his 44. I got a couple boxes really cheap but never got around to using them until I left the service.

My first box had a squb that barely made it into the barrel. I was able to hammer,it out w cleaning rod but I always wondered if it did any damage. Ruger single actions are hard to hurt but I didn't fire any more of his ammo. I understand now, this is a common problem w reloads but I pretty pissed off at the time.

I'll have to buy a wooden dowel before I try another box. ;)
