My carry weapon is a Smith & Wesson bodyguard 380 semi automatic in a Desantis holster. On numerous occasions I find, upon pulling it from my pocket, that it is not in a condition to fire. On two occasions the magazine was released. On another occasion the mag was released and a cartridge was dislodged and inside the mag holder. Anther time, the laser retaining screw had backed out and prevented the slide from operating. I have lost confidence that this weapon, if ever needed, will serve its purpose. Is this a characteristic of semi-autos or just my gun?

I would look into a different holster for sure.

Hence why my pocket gun is a revolver.

And that's the Direction I'm considering. My only concern is the added thickness due to the cylinder size.

Dont know if this is what your looking for but have you considered using an ankle holster? Might not be your first choice but it may work for you. Or an IWB holster with a holster that is made of a harder material so the mag release wont get pushed.

Sounds like handgun issue and or holster handgun mix for you. I have pocketed a a pf-9 then a kahr cm9 for 6 years now with never any problem. I worked as a carpenter with heavily loaded bags on too. Both take a good soilid push to let the mag loose. Do you right hand CC not leaning on anything that can hit directly on the mag release botton?? Nothing other than your handgun and holster in your pocket right?? No extra anything

Am I reading that you do not have a pocket holster?

If that is correct, may I suggest you try one?
Putting the pistol directly in the pocket is asking for lint to get in the barrel and any other places it can. Look at the swiss army knife you have. Open all blades and you will find lint and other junk.

A pocket holster helps to protect the mag release also.

Definately a holster issue. I have the bg 380 also and have never had an issue while using a pocket holster or any other holster for that matter.
