Well my wife and I are planning a 5 day canoe trip through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area of Northern Minnesota with our dog. I have been once before (actually to the Canadian side) but my wife has never done something like this before. I have no doubt of her ability to make it through as I have planned only a 25 mile trip along the Kawishiwi river (southern river I think). So now for the questions: 1) I know my Texas CHL is accepted in Minnesota, but from what I am reading MN has some form of open carry. What are the laws and regulations pertaining to open carry in the MN wilderness? I have searched handgunlaw.us and the MN statues and haven't found a thing. 2) Are there Grizzly bears in MN? I don't do grizzly bears, black bears sure, but grizzlies no way; hence the gun I plan to carry. The gun is of course is the last line of protection if the smell of my dog, loud noises we would make, throwing rocks, and bear spray failed. 3) What outfitter would you recommend if you have experience in this area? Most seem to recommend Voyageur North Outfitters which have reasonable prices. Since my wife and I have all the gear we would need already, we only need to rent canoes, paddles, life jackets. 4) Any other advice/suggestions?
