Anyone have exp. With a pistol mounted red dot. Is it worth the bulk? I know it makes rifle shooting improve.

I was looking at the burris fast fire red dot. It is $250 + $50 for mount

What application are you thinking of using it for?

I would never put glass on my gun for CCW. It could break too easily. If I get bumped the wrong way or something..

On the other hand, plenty of competition shooters use red dots.

A good red dot can drastically improve your groups for target shooting.

How do they do in low light conditions?

I'm going to add one to my 22/45 Target. Its already drilled and tapped so all I need is a deal on the optic.

Strictly my opinion, you understand. But I personally wouldn't throw a red dot on a home defense or bug out or run and gun firearm. Too easily broken.

But, I'm sure there are more experienced people than me who do it.

For those applications I personally would prefer some night sights and maybe a laser/flash light combo.

+1. Mine's going on a markIII 22/45. It should make it a lot more fun to shoot. A laser sight or a streamlight might go on my P229 which goes in my nightstand. But I wouldn't put an optic on my Home defense pistol. Just MHO as well.

I have one on my Sig, and honestly I've had nothing but problems, the screws rattle loose, the dot would go low enough to the bore and I'm to the point of debating of putting my stock sight back on

Red dots are often difficult to see in bright conditions.

You can see the dot very well in low light conditions, how we'll you can see the target is another issue.

I was surprised by how well my Burris FF works in bright sun light.

That and threadlock should solve the issue.

I agree with the suggestions as above. You need to make sure the screws are torqued down properly and there is some thread lock on them when you tighten them down.

IMO, any type of optics seem like a bad choice for a SD/HD pistol.

i would only put optics on a target, hunting or competition type pistol.

i had a red dot sight on my Ruger Mk III 22/45 target pistol and didn't like it as much as i thought i would and removed it and went back to using the factory open sights.

You won't get anything productive from me. I'm a noob with regard to optics. My thought would be it needs to be adjusted. I have no clue on that but if it were me I would be shooting it from a bench or some sort of a gun rest or something and have a pro sight it in for you. I'll bet it could be as simple as that.

I have a Burris Fastfire 3 on my Ruger MKlll 22/45 and I love it. I have it sighted at around 30yds. and it is easy to see in bright light.

    That looks nice.
You done alot of multiple target/quick aquisition shooting with it?
If so, did you gain immediate improvement with the Burris FF3?
