I have a pachmayr grip for my old Dan wesson, I love it and I shoot really well with it. Recently it started to leave black color traces on my palm and fingers, I would hate to change it. Is the a way to stop it's deterioration?

Prolly not but the beauty is that it shouldn't feel any different when you replace it with a new one

FWIW, it is likely the plasticizes in the grip are beginning to break down and the grip is deteriorating. Oils, synthetic oils, body oils, dirt, and sweat have begun to precipitated this process, as the grip has begun to wear and age. I'd remove it, clean the gun handle and replacethe slip on grip. It just happens over time.

Thoroughly cleaning it with mild soap and warm water may slow the process down but not stop it. Wipe it down (gun handle) between uses also should help.
