New to this forum and to handguns. You can say that is started late...say when I turned 50. I fell in love with my 22 browning. I have taken my CCW and now have to decide on what type of gun that I want to carry. I like the idea that the P220/226 has interchangeable barrels for a 22...BUT because I LOVE my 22, am I missing another great carry gun because I am thinking about a 22? Does anyone have any suggestions as a carry gun. I want something that is small and light weight and an semi-auto.

    Thank you!

I just traded my .40 cal Kahr for a smaller Sig p238. 380 cal for summer carry. Nice and small. My buddy says I'm a fool for trading to less stopping power but I could always carry something different in the winter months.

Not trying to make you change you're mind and God knows I love my 226 it is my go to gun for sure. However it's a really big and heavy gun for carry. With that said I have not regretted my purchase for one moment.I have three barrels for her 9,40&357. and she shoots awesome in all three. For cc you might want to look for something a little smaller and slimmer.

Well a 226 is definitely not what you are looking for. They are big guns. You are the only one that knows what gun is right for you.
Some people like the grip on a glock. Some can't stand it. The best thing you can do is handle as many guns as you can shoot them if you have the opportunity. But here are a few to get you looking. Springfield XD/XDM or XDS. The CS and XDM come in a sub compact size as well as the compact known by Springfield as the service modal and a full size known as the tactical modal. For CC (conceal carry) I would go the sub compact. The XDs is the smallest .45apc on the market. If you won't to carry .45 this is the best option unless you go with a 1911. They also just came out with it in 9mm. Glock also makes sub compact. Some don't like the idea of not having a safety tho. The Springfield has a grip safety and a trigger safety. The glock only has a trigger safety. S&W makes the M&P that is also grate. They also make the shield in 9mm and .40 it is smaller than there sub compact. Sig makes amazing guns as well. Ruger has some good options also.

I have a Sig P938 that I have used for CC. It is a small 9mm. Great pistol, very reliable.

Sig also make a 229 that is a more compact version of the 226 if you ARs thinking if carrying it. Unless I ourselves you are some John Wayne sized guy who can pack a full sized auto inconspicuously.

Thank you all! I'm going to the shooting range today and trying some of these. I just tried a P220/9mm, nice feel, good grip. Let me know if anything else comes to mind.

If you're looking at Sigs then I would think the 229 to be a much moire carry friendly pistol. It is set up very much like a 226 just a little smaller. More or less the 229 to the 220/226 is what the Commander 1911 is to the government frame,

    229

Just saw a nice write up on the 229. It seems all the State and Federal LEO's are switching to the 229 from the 220/226/228 because it's "forged" steel and not pinned together alloy! Gov'ts are doing the 357 SIG round...Apparently the Secret Service & US. Air Marshals are as well...My wife and I shot the 226 at a Machine Gun Place In Vegas....She didn't like it but she loves Wheelguns...I liked it...If I didn't already own a half a dozen 9's.....
