Well, usually people tend to go by tier. I on the other hand would just go with a Colt or Bushmaster, mainly a Colt 14.5 for me :p. You can also take the Stag or Rock River arms into consideration.

All of the above have either a military or police contract. It also depends on what you will be using the rifle for.

Just curious on some opinions of the best brand of AR-15's. Tend to lean towards Ruger firearms.
Bravo Company bravocompanyusa.com makes some of the best uppers. Their lowers are excellent too. I have one of their 16" mid-length hammer forged uppers. That baby is solid. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Just my opinion. LMT'S Lewis Machine and Tool are awesome too.

You might want to lean away from Ruger ARs and toward Colt, BCM and Daniel Defense.

there will be many different opinions on who makes the best AR.

really depends on what your intended usage is. casual plinking" target shooting? vamint or game hunting? competition?

how much is your intended budget? what can you live with or without as far as features?

my older Bushmaster M4A2 16" Carbine suits my needs quite well and does what i need it to each and every time. so is the Bushmaster the best? it is for my needs and purposes. are there better AR's than my Bushmaster? yes there are, but probably at a higher price with features that would be of little use to me for the money spent. so what's best for one person may not be suitable for another persons needs. so what's best is pretty vague and open in interpritation.

Well said axxe. Also keep in mind that the AR-15 platform is one of the most customizable rifles out there. If your on a budget don't be afraid to do a little research on who makes the most dependable essential parts cuz you can always build and customize everything else later. I personally own a Rock River 5.56 and haven't had a problem yet.

PSA too. palmettostatearmory.com
I have of the mock dissys. She has ran great for me. The things I look for in an AR15 is will it serve me as an SHTF weapon. If not I'm probably not going to waste my money. I have wasted too much money over the years buying firearms, optics and such. I have learned my lesson. For me when it comes to a 'budget' AR15 buy a descent lower and the best upper you can. With the lower you yourself can get it to where you want it. Buffer, buffer spring, trigger, stock, grip and etc. I have 2 AR15's yes only 2. One is an BCM 16"MIDDY sitting on a DPMS lower. Have changed trigger to a Geissele, buffer to a Spikes H2, spring to a Sprinco Blue, Magpul furniture. The PSA is set in a STAG lower set up exactly the same. The BCM is my SHTF AR15. PSA is a back-up. If you can only have one, make it a good one if not a great one. You wont be wasting money. Both the DPMS and STAG were bought as complete AR's. Both uppers were given away to friends that either couldn't afford a upper or their wives wouldn't give em to cash to get one. It all depends on it's purpose. SHTF/Bug out gun, home protection (shotgun is better) or just a coke can killer. Ok I'm done.

All that being said/typed. At this point and time get what you can. Went to gun show this weekend and was extremely happy that I already had mine. Prices were insane. $600.00 gun going for over $1200.00.

Much like 1911s, ARs are best judged according to price class/tier. Let's face it, comparing an $750 S&W to a $2500+ Larue Tactical or an LMT isn't really fair.
I make no claims of outright superiority, but I have a Rock River that is a lot of rifle for the money (just under 1K.) I was particularly pleased with their 2 stage trigger.

Agreed. I should have prefaced with what I consider mid level. Any thing between $900-$1500 before December 2012.
Price has nothing to do with it. I purchased by Colt LE6920 for around $1000 a couple of years ago and before the recent events, they were selling for around that same amount.

As much as some like to hate on the "chart", it does make a direct comparison as to what specs manufacturers build their rifles. Only you can decide how close to the TDP you want your rifle.
