my sierra manual lists 46.x as a max w748 load under 168grn bthp. my hornady book list around 43.1 for the same bullet.

do you m1a experts think 44grns will hurt my springfield loaded??

taking it out tomorrow. ive only fired surplus 147grn out of it so far.

I would REDUCE the load and work up from there.
Always better to be safe then sorry.
    Do you have a chronograph?

not anymore i dont. blew it up with a 525grn softpoint out of my winchester model 70 458 winmag a few years back. still need to replace it.

anyway i shot em this weekend was doing about moa open sights at 100 and 200 about 30 rounds in the rear sight elevation screw worked loose and i didnt realize it. so i had about 20 more shorts stringing vertically.

still not sure i like the rifle as much as the rep of t says i should...

JonM get a new Hornady Handbook of Cartridge Reloading and be safe the first time. It has sections specifically for the service gas ops: M1A, M1 and .223. You can severely damage your rifle or yourself with hot loads.
