Heading into town this AM I spotted signs indicating Open Carry Day. Didn't get home til 4:40PM but after checking online it is real.

Open Carry Day, Sat Nov 16, 2013

Phil Spence, husband of a friend of mama's through work is primary organizer.

I purchased my S&W M&P 40 from Trader Jerry' who will be displaying at this event.

dgivens Organizer installed out septic system at our log home, graveled our driveway, graded & seeded our yard. He works full time at the local Prison.

Website on their page is incorrect: Should be:

I know nothing about this day but I will certainly drop by and perhaps join the NRA who will also be there with speakers. I can even buy a T-shirt.

Anyone heard of this kind of activity?

Enjoy it while you can. Virginia has elected an Anti-Gun New York Carpet Beggar as their Governor. Mister "Terry" has promised to remove all those guns from the Old Plantation.

I've been to a few OC rallys...Not in your state but I would imagine they work the same. It's well worth checking out weather you OC or not truth be told. Seeing a lot of like minded people enjoying their rights and getting along. I've attended with more than one anti or on the fence OC person over the years and it's really interesting to see their opinions change once they see things first hand. I've met some very good people at such events. Very smart ones as well.

We are about 20 mi north of Hwy 81 at Exit 141 on hwy 311.

T-M is very buddy-buddy with the big-O but he did not get my vote either.

D-J - that is encouraging to hear someone be influenced and make a wise decision.

Please just don't wear full camo, carry extra mags and act like fools on national TV. We don't need any more pointless bad press. What is the purpose and end game of this event? Seems like these events go bad too often whole trying to prove a point. Sometimes the soft sell is more effective.

    New Castle Open Carry Day

    Hey,

I'm Jacob Dellinger, owner of 11 Bravo Training and co-sponsor with Phil Spence of the Emporium of the Open Carry Day in New Castle. I was just "google"ing New Castle Open Carry Day to see how much our reach had grew and noticed this thread. To answer one of your questions, this event is largely meant to draw tourists out to Craig County. Ironically enough, it was a democrat from the tourism commission that gave us the idea. Overall, this event has been well received by our community in Craig. We have not spoken to a single person here that doesn't like the idea. Now search the Roanoke Times and check out Dan Casey's blog...and well...their sentiments are quite different.

Anyhow, I'm glad to see people are talking about us far and wide and we would love to have anyone that can make it out here this Saturday!

If you would like, you can follow us on facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/events/601514966553559/?source=1

    On the web at www.newcastleopencarry.com

...and you can email me anytime at newcastleopencarry@gmail.com if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Jacob Dellinger

P.S. Watch for us on WDBJ7 tomorrow night and/or Saturday Morning...Phil, Adam and Myself (or some combination thereof) are being interviewed tomorrow!

The Open Carry Day went off without incident. I would guess throughout the day there may have been 150+ attendees. Perhaps one of the sponsors will jump in and confirm or correct with a better count. I'd guess 60% were open carrying and there were a couple long rifles as well.

My take on the event is "Awareness". Just trying to make everyone aware that Open Carry is perfectly legal in Va providing you have not done something to exempt yourself. There were people driving around through town (small place) and didn't seem to have a care in the world with all those wearing weapons. They just went about their business. I did not see one LE person and everything was very peaceful.

They had a couple different speakers (don't recall the strongest lobbyist name) but he had everyone's attention during his pitch. He spoke of the fact that where gun control was the least, crime was least as well and gave examples of his thoughts on how open carry could reduce crime by exposure.

He mentioned a Rally that in DC and how many wore the "Guns Save Lives" stickers. He said the turn-out was very impressive.

I introduced myself to Joe Coty - main instructor at 11 Bravo Training - he can be seen in the online video.

I would encourage places to organize this kind of activity. Even without the weapons I believe it is a positive event and can help us who carry open or concealed gain respect.

They had a NRA signup booth and I did join. :)

Cool, glad to hear things went well. I haven't seen any incriminating video clips on the national news today so I'd call it a winner!

Jeff Spence (neighbor) was on the local NEWS WDBJ7 Friday night before the event basically announcing the event and intent. He had another interview at the event but I didn't catch the nature of that interview.

Lots of these stickers displayed on attendees.
