Los Angeles, late 1800s. A young man, about 5 years old. Active kid- loved horses, hated reading. His folks were originally from Virginia- had an older friend that would visit and stay with them. A veteran of the American Civil War, he often told the youngster stories of cavalry raids and dashing exploits from the war. Youngster was fascinated with the stories. Sorry- you don't recognize them? Well, just an old soldier telling war stories to a 5 year old. The old soldier? John Singleton Mosby- the Gray Ghost- commander of the 43rd Virginia Cavalry. The little boy that listened to those stories of guerilla raids and cavalry attacks? George S. Patton.
