The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where apparent nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

FACT: Barack Obama opposes Right to Carry laws.7

FACT: Barack Obama was a member of the Board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, the leading source of funds for anti-gun organizations and “research.”8

FACT: Barack Obama supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America.9

FACT: Barack Obama voted not to notify gun owners when the state of Illinois did records searches on them.10

FACT: Barack Obama voted against a measure to lower the Firearms Owners Identification card age minimum from 21 to 18, a measure designed to assist young people in the military.11

I think THAT is all anyone from this site could ask of someone who is considering throwing their vote towards the Left.

I appreciate that you are researching all the aspects of any candidate, whether he be yours or that of "the other" party.

You have definitely gained considerable respect from me with this post - not that you necessarily could care less. LOL

But, for what it's worth, the fact that you seem to be Pro-Obama and are willing to consider all facets of his positions instead of the mindless "Change" drones is worth mention.

Thanks for all the info OPAWW. I knew he was a stout anti-gunner, but I had no idea how stout! I believe it was the May issue of the American Rifleman that detailed some of his voting record, in particular the case of one of his constituents who defended himself from home invasion with a handgun purchased years earlier. In order to avoid prosecuting this man, a vote was scheduled to amend the Illinois law prohibiting self defense with a handgun, Obama voted against it. That was enough for me.

This site might help... sums up each candidate... well, it is a bit old also has hillary in it.

Obama is a disaster, but we know this... you fight with that in mind

McCain is the unknown. That is scary.

Forgotten already? John McCain's 2004 vote for the Clinton Gun Ban

We already know what we are up against with obama... with mccain we might be signing over a gold key to anti-gun activists.

When I first started looking into mccain earlier this year, I found a guy who will say anything to get elected... he flip flops on issues worse than any candidate I've ever seen (including Kerry).

The only thing I knew about mccain before was his military service. Being a vet and business owner, I figured mccain would be a sure bet for me....not so.

    Even here:

I'll be glad when the year comes and we have a candidate that TRULY supports the 2nd....

Obama worries me... but I can see him coming...

McCain scares the hell out of me... I can't see him at all....

Make me think back to when we found out the Michigan State Police had a "RED SQUAD." Don't ask me about it, I really never heard much. :(
