Just picked up older rem wingmaster 20 gage LW Magnum. It has a 18.75" vent rib barrel. And the walnut stocks are a beutiful checkering but not like todays. they have spade shapes and scroll type checkering.Barrel had some heavr rust spots that did clean up pretty good.
Are smooth bore deer sifht barrels available on this older style wingmaster?
Any ino for mfg dates, and replacement barrels are welcome.also reliability and info remarks.
    Thank you,

Yes, 870 LW's have interchangeable barrels.
One way to date your Model 870 shotgun is to locate the code on the left side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver. The first letter indicates the month of production, and the second letter indicates the year of production. By advised, though, as many guns have had replacement barrels.

If it's less than 21" with a vent rib, then someone cut it and it likely has no choke. I would check it.

per the Remington parts list -
Remington part #241886 is a 18.75" Vent Rib RemChoke 20 gauge Wingmaster bbl. for $160.
#241888 is an 18.5" EXPRESS RemChoke Vent rib bbl. w/ a full tube (Should match your gun.) for $144. And I think #241887 is with a MOD tube.
They also list some youth model matte bbls. and some fixed choke bbls. with rifle sights that should match. I don't see that Cabelas number on Remington's list. That #24578 you are looking at is a Wingmaster deer barrel with rifle sights from what I see. Download the spare parts list. A lot more barrels on there than on the extra barrels list.
I found this above statement on a shot gun forum from 2009.which helped.

Now I have a second question. Can you measure the choke tube with inside calipers to find a measurement to see what size tube in my 18.75" ribbed barrel with unknown tube size to shoot slugs?

Ah, if it has RemChokes, which you didn't say at first, just unscrew it and it will have the choke written on it. You can shoot Foster style - rifled - slugs thru any choke, but they usually do better with improved cylinder or sometimes modified. Cabela's numbers are not the same as Remington's, but when you get it you will see the Remington number of the packaging.

Once you remove and determine which Remchoke you have you can go to MidWestGunWorks.com and click on the Remchoke link. It will provide a list of all the different Remchokes with their measurements.

I may be wrong (Underfire, what do you think?) but I believe the Rem 870 standard and LW barrels are NOT interchangeable, so make sure you get a LW designated barrel if you buy a replacement/additional barrel.

They are not interchangable. Any original RemChoke barrels will fit the LWs.

I was speaking in relation to the LW models (post#2), but I should have clarified it better. I edit post #2 to help clarify. ;)

Remington 870 LW barrels have 3" chamber, fit any 870 LW Express or youth model 20 gauge receiver. Will not fit 870 standard weight or Special Field 20 gauge shotguns. The LW model was in production from 1978-1990. The OP should be able to find the barrel needed with all the LW models produced.
