If a guy my age can be considered a newbie, I'm it - been shooting and hunting from age 15 - deer(Mulies),elk(Roosevelt) and grouse, a quail or two if they get in front of me and choose to be skillet food. I live in Oregon (born here) and have had more than my share of dry years - no trophy animals (just meat) never seen a trophy on the hoof I've run the gammet from 223 to 375 H&H Mag and finally settled on (years ago) a model 99 Savage in 300 Savage for deer and a Mauser actioned 30-06 for elk. Shot gallery match 5 years with a 52B and pistol competition with High Standard Olympic 22 short, revolver with a Smith 38 Spl and 45 with a Clark but that was over 20 years ago.
