I knocked the sight loose awhile back. It eventually got to the point where it would move which ever way I would tilt the gun. So I decided to take it off. Went shooting yesterday and I fired just as well with it off as I did when it was on. All I did was aim it the same way I would with a shotgun. Pretty surprising.... Should I leave it off or spend $80+ to get a new one?

Have you considered contacting SA? They may replace it.

Actually, no. Didn't even think about it. I was looking into getting a new sight all together. Never thought I could get one for free

If you could so easily displace the sight, seems something is wrong that needs to be handled under warranty, like maybe the dovetail in the slide being out of spec. If that is the case, new sights you buy may not fit properly. Springfield has a rep for excellant customer service. I'd suggest you call them & they might even upgrade it to the sights you prefer with just a nominal charge for the sights, but labor at no charge.

What model is your Springfield? Mil specs have a stud on them and are hammered in with a jig . R. O's and loaded are filed and slid into the dovetail then drilled and pinned. Which model do you have and if it fell out definitely contact S.A ?

I had an American Classic that did the same thing. While it may not be a common problem, seems it can happen to any of them, Colt included.

Send it back to SA. They have excellent customer service and their pistols have a lifetime warranty if I remember correctly.
