I didn't know where in the hell to post this so, me and my cousin went to his parents property to do a little target practice. We get everything set start to pop off a few rounds nothing really spectacular after a few minutes a guy walks out of the tree line about 60 yards away from where were shooting. Long hair, dirty looking beard he yells at us to keep it down. We didn't say anything just gave him a odd look, he called his mom she said no one else should be on the property so he grabs the 870 I have my carry gun and we start walking to find out what in the hell he was doing there. We found he was camping with four other people they knew the land owner next door so they figured that we wouldn't mind them being there. keep in mind they had to jump a cattle fence to get over to the property with no trespassing signs posted every 10 yards on the fence.

After talking to the older guy the left but honestly what in the hell are people thinking... the signs are there for a reason! I would have called the cops but it takes them a good half hour to reach the area, still makes me angry.

That's nuts. Are you sure they knew the other owner and just weren't squatters?

did you explain to them that besides them being there illegally, that they had also endangered themselves. what would of happenend if they had been camped behind your targets and someone got hit by accident.

Almost sounds like a "homeless" camp.

I've had a similar range experience while I was on my family's property doing shooting with my cousins. Long story short a guy decides to come out of nowhere swearing at the top of his lungs and after telling him we were doing nothing wrong and that this was our property he pulls a pistol on both me and my wife. So he calls the police to try to arrest us, but he gets arrested for trespassing.

If i was you i would have been the one callin the police to come pick up a body! What th heck reason did he have to pull a gun on you?! Abd the the OP I would have held them there while i sent my buddy to get the police. Tresspassing is against the law. If there werent no tresspasing signs and a fence to let them no it was private property but the fact he yelled at you and ignored the signs and fence would have pi$$ed me off a bit.

I'm not sure as to why he was so irrate, and I'm not sure how he got on the property since we have electric fences, regular metal fences, and barb wire on the property to keep the animals in and such. Now what really gets me is there we around 15-20 of us including the brother of the guy who came on the property. Not to mention we were all armed in some fashion, so my take on it is he either had an extremely bad day and was so irrate he couldn't hardly control himself or extremely ignorant/dumb....... Or both for that matter.

They should have gotten him for pulling a gun on you too. Isn't that a felony, especialy if its on YOUR property. Sorry, but I would have really been tempted to shoot the dumbass for pulling a gun.

Sure they can occupy my land. I just can't guarantee that they will not be leaving with a few extra holes.:p

I can't recall if he was arrested for that too, but my wife should remember, so I'll ask her when she gets home this weekend.

I'm not a doom and gloomer but, if / when the SHTF, this squatting will be the norm and not the exception. As a civilized society, and knowing we don't go around shooting people for simple trespass. During a national emergency, economic collapse, natural disaster, etc. The police / Sheriff's department with their hands full and maybe answering only bona-fide life / death situations, and not concerned with trespassing...

    What's yawl's plan of action?

It certainly isn't letting squatters use up my resources.

As a civilized society in a shtf situation if someone sneaks on to my property past the no trespassing signs and fence then I as a civilized member of society will defend myself my family and my land. I wont go around shooting unless they pull on me but if they are on my land without asking if its ok ill make sure i have my gun with me when i tell them to get the he// out before i count to 3.

I don't know, but since then my uncle has been talking about getting a taller fence and a lot of razor wire, the only reason I didn't call the cops it is would have taken them half an hour to get there. We did talk to land owner next door he had zero clue who we were talking about so my cousin and uncle will be making "patrols" around the property. All I know is if those people aren't more careful they might end up getting shot by some angry land owner.

The guy is probably bipolar. I have a friend who fits the description exactly. He would have done the same thing as the guy you describe. Generally you can set boundaries with them and they will generally stick to them. My friend is homeless by choice. He is very intelligent, very talented and a big pain in the ass if you let him.

I have problems like this as well. I live about 180mi away from my land. Luckily the neighbors patrol 3-4 times a day on 4-wheelers. The problem is a night they go out spotlighting deer at night, clean them, and leave the carcass for us to clean up. Really pisses me off. It only happens 2-3 times a year though. One day I will catch them and hopefully scare them enough to keep them away. Local sheriff can't seem to track them down. Other property owners in the area have to deal with the same thing.

Someone that walks onto your property may just be passing through and mean no harm,or they may be scouting resources to steal and possibly "take by force". I WILL find out what their intentions are because my families safety comes first. I will confront them with a weapon and find out why they are tresspassing. I will then escort them off of my property, whether they walk or have to be carried is up to them
