I am debating an ar purchase ive limited them down to 4 choices. Im either going with yankees yhm-8100, a basic noveske, a larue or building my own to my specific needs. I will be using this ar for 3 gun competition shooting and general target shooting. This is the funnest part next to decking out the ar and that's shopping for one

I agree the shopping is fantastic. I stretched it out for a year. Buy a Noveske, I really would like one, but for now I could just live vicariously through you;-)

I use the same rifle for 3Gun that I use in classes. Just a simple milspec BCM 14.5" LW w/ 13" Troy Alpha rail and 4 lb. trigger.

You should!. But to get or hunt all the parts, takes time & patience. Also calculate for your own references, build vs buy, in cost factor.

I'd get a Rainer Arms RUC, not much you have to do to it.

12.37" FF lightweight Rainer Arms hand guards by Samson
Lightweight Daniel Defense CL CHF middy barrel.
    Diamondhead Premium BUIS
    VLTOR I mod Stock
    Geissele Trigger
    Rainer Arms XTC compensator.
    Rainer Arms milspec Thunderbolt

These guys make a nice rifle.

JP is a custom rifle maker. They cater mostly to the competition market.

The only real innovations that differentiate JP are their side charger uppers, adjustible gas blocks, and LMOS bcgs. These can be purchased seperately and put on your custom build. While I do agreed that JP makes probably one of the best rifles for competition, there's are two things that make me consider looking elsewhere: lead times (very long waits), and stainless barrels. With the amount of ammo you shoot in practice and competition id rather have a melonited barrel or chrome lined.

I'm going to assume this is a question and by STS you mean stainless steel....

JP makes awesome barrels. Their stainless steel barrels are probably very accurate. But an unlined STS barrel will erode much faster than a lined one.

Personally if I was in competition I'd want a very accurate barrel that will last a long time so that I can practice practice practice and compete as much as possible. A melonited barrel will not reduce accuracy/consistency in any barrel and will last 4x longer. A chrome lined barrel will last about as long if not more than a melonited barrel but due to the chroming process isn't as consistent as an unlined or melonited barrel (tho this is probably only a marginal step down)

Just remember, in 3gun you really aren't going for groups. Look at the stages you will be competing in to get a sense of what king of accuracy you will be needing. For example, if you need to hit 6" targets at 300 yards, you will probably want a magnified optic and a gun that will shoot 2 moa. etc etc,

    Good luck!

In the car world, a JP would be an F1 car, LaRue and Noveske, a Porsche and Ferrari, and YHM a Honda.

I'm really wondering how YHM got on your list.
