I picked, and carry the .40. My SR40 is the best combination of reliability-power-mag capacity, i could think of. As far as "man stopper" goes, i think it will do the trick..If not,,keep commin, how many .40 Hydra-Shoks do you want......

Changing to appendix carry allows me to comfortably carry my custom Commander year round even in Florida's heat.

.380 is the pocket gun and the .40 is the home defense choice.

40 & 357 can over penetrate. Anything 9mm or lower may not have enough stopping power with one shot.

45 is the most efficient man-stopper with 1 shot. It distributes all its energy into the body without over-penetrating.

For carry I use a compact 45 ACP, for home a full size 9 mm.

I have two CC guns I swap out,I have a glock30sf that does nightstand duty most of the time, occasional CC when I know I am going to a higher risk area of town,or when I'm not worried about printing.

Most of the time it's a sig p938 though. Which is a dream to carry IWB. I can stretch my shirt tight over it and it still doesn't print at all. I also have a pocket holster for quick runs to the store or something.

.38+p in a jframe. If I could do it over again, I would have got the .357, but 5-135 grain +p gold dots will take care of almost any situation if I hit my target.

My real favorite is 45acp in my 1911. But sometimes that is not practical. So I often carry a sub compact single stack 9mm in a pocket holster. But then again sometimes I am in the mood to strap on my 629 44 mag.

For CC, my LC9, for OC, my Python, or my Combat Commander, or the SR9. For civil insurrection or More then 5 dirtbags trying to rip us off, everything I can get my hands on, but I'd hope my 20 Ga. Semi Auto and my Mini 14 would be enough. Otherwise I'd have to go to .308's and thats gonna get messy...

.380 may not be the best "bang" for the buck BUT it puts a lot of small handguns in people pockets that normally wouldn't carry. I have friends who buy all kinds of 9mm and up guns for CC that give up carrying them due to size and comfort concerns. A Ruger LCP may not be the best gun to bring to a gunfight but it beats bringing a knife.

I think that that is all nypd should be allowed to have. Same with lapd, and chicago pd shouldnt have anything, police should be bound by the same laws as the rest of us.

I voted for the 40, if 180gr XTPs at 1200fps were not convincing enough 16+1 of them make a strong argument in an XDm.
That said I am quite comfortable caring a 9mm or 45 as well, they all do the trick if you place them correctly. My main CCW is an XDm 9mm. 1911s are fun at the range but I prefer the capacity/weight of a modern poly frame.

Carefull ammo selection is important. 45 ball can and will over penetrate. Most quality jhp defense ammo is designed to do a specific task, so actual performance between the calibers' premium defense ammo is pretty much the same. 9, 45, 40, 357 will all do the same job, equally well, so long as the user makes correct decisions. It just depends on what you need/want it to do. 357 is general purpose do all (most), 45 is two-legged, 9 & 40 is hi cap two legged.
