I don't have a safe and I have kids at home, whats a good way to lock a lever action? You can't run it threw the chamber and a trigger lock doesn't work ( you can just open the lever) I ran a cable around the stock and threw the loop of the lever and now you can't work the lever as long as its wrapped twice and locked , but I'm afraid it will scratch the nice wooden stock. Any suggestions ??

As above or a locking rifle case, or a safe. Anything that keeps your firearms out of the hands of unauthorized people. Simply locking the action won't keep someone from stealing it.

A locking rifle case won't keep the gun from being stolen, either.

OP seems more concerned about the kids than getting it stolen.....

That's fine I appreciate that, don't make yourself crazy looking I use the cable lock around the stock and holding the lever locked and keep it locked in a gun case I think that ought to be safe enough

quick and dirty (free) way is remove the lever and/or bolt. store seperately while kiddos are present.
