Normally, when I go to Cabelas they have .308 ammo in at least three bullet weights from at least three manufacturers. Today they had no .308 ammo. Zero. Nada. Zilch. And the gun counter there was packed. In addition to the 30 guys looking at guns, there were another 15 in line to do paperwork for purchases.

I guess with the Obama administration planning to limit firearms ownership - especially of 'assault weapons' - people are rushing to load up on military chamberings.

Maybe Dick's will have some .308 ammo.

Got lucky. PC KMart was clearing out their ammo at half price. Not only was it half price. It was also marked at pre-crazy days prices. Scarfed 16 boxes of Win 308 at $7 a box.

They had some expensive Winchester .308 ammo at Dicks, but no Remington CoreLokt, which my rifle likes. I could not bring myself to spend close to $40/box when my preferred ammo costs just $19.99.

The clerks at KMart looked at me like I was from a different planet. I believe that they thought the ammunition would go off by itself. They also had Win 30-30 for the same price. Their 12 gauge was $8 for 25 shells(buckshot) and $4 for 500 rounds of 22 LR. I spent more than I wanted to but I could not pass it up.
